Planar Pl190M Blackout - with Dell 4500

WE have a Dell 4500 from August 2002 withPlanar PL190M, recently the monitor got several times blackout a day. we tried to update bios from dell, but was not allowed to finish.  We hit the keyboard, nothing react. Tried to remote control from other machine,  can't.

After blackout, usually if we shut down the computer and restart, it will work for a while, but now even the computer can not be eazily restarted, blackout in the middle of restarting.

It is really annoying, hope somebody here can help me to solve this problem. btw, we use a western digital 120G hard drive, do not know if it is the problem.

Thanks,

getting interupted during bios install is not a good thing.

try clearing the cmos and see if that helps .

definitely try installing the bios again, probably will solve your problems

Thanks for your reply, ronss.

We have tried to clear the cmos, and successfully reupdated bios. But the problem still exist after turn on the computer 1 hour. Actually the monitor is not totally black, it is gray, and the lcd did get some sort of signal from the computer, otherwise it will display as "no signal".

It is weird. And we think it may be due to too many peripherals: a webcam, a compact flash card reader, a printer, a scanner, and a router. We unpluged the webcam, printer and scanner, the problem still occur. Now we suspect the problem either is the power section has problem or the operate system.

So what can we do next?

Thanks for your attention!
