S2718D No HDMI cable - cannot connect the monitor to a laptop via a VGA / HDMI adaptor

I have a S2718D monitor and a Lenovo Thinkpad laptop with only USB2 and VGA ports.

So I have an adaptor from VGA to HDMI but I cannot get the monitor to recognise the HDMI input.  the laptop thinks it is sending the display out ( the 'extend display' option works ) but the monitor does not receive.

I have tried Dell support but no joy yet.

Any ideas anyone?...

Cheers,

Patrick

This is a limitation of that laptop. A computer VGA out port cannot upconvert to a monitor HDMI in port via a straight passive cable or passive adapter. You must purchase an active converter or active cable converter. BUT, none of them can do the required S2718D resolution 2560x1440. With your laptop, the highest resolution to this monitor will be 1920x1080.

Computer VGA out port --> VGA to HDMI active converter cable --> Monitor HDMI in port 1920x1080
