Toolbar at bottom of screen too big!

For some reason a wide blue bar has appeared at the bottom of my screen. Along the top of the bar I see, from left to right, the START button, then the programs that are running. Below that is a bar for My Computer, showing 3 1/2 Floppy, Local Disk, CD-RW Drive, etc. To the right I see the time and date. All of this stuff hides too much of the bottom of the screen. I'd really like to see ONLY the START button and the date and time. How can I get rid of the rest? Thank you!

Right click on the Taskbar and uncheck Lock The Taskbar if it is ticked. Then you can grab the top edge of the Taskbar and drag it down so it is only one row high.

Right click on the Taskbar again and under Toolbars, uncheck those you don't want.

Finally, if you want the Taskbar to remain hidden until you need it, Right click on the Taskbar again, select Properties and check Auto-hide the Taskbar.
