U2718Q, audio screech, #2

I'm having the exact same problem Eaghead89 reported, the audio sound bad, like really bad, whenever I listen to anything where someone says a "th" or "s" it's like someone is running their hand along a chain link fence. How can I fix this? I just bought the U2718Q a few days ago and I've only used the audio with my Xbox One X. I've tried this with Dell Powered speakers (AX510), a headphone amplifier, and just regular earbuds, they sound just as bad any option.

"a headphone amplifier, and just regular earbuds"

Headphone usage is not supported in the Audio-Line out port. You must plug powered external speakers into the Audio-Line out port.

See the online U2718Q User's Guide page 11 =

"AX510"
The U2718Q does not have Dell Soundbar mounting brackets. This means that the Dell Soundbar AX510 was not sold or tested with the U2718Q. We recommended the Dell AE415 2.1 Speaker System.

The U2718Q does not have any audio settings in its Menu. The U2718Q is simply an audio "pass-through" from the source device HDMI/DP/mDP and out of its Audio-Line out port into powered external speakers. The source device controls the audio. You will have to show us via pictures what audio options/menus are on the Xbox One X. Also, how is the Xbox One X connecting to the U2718Q using what cable and ports on both?

Thanks for your response Chris,

I've been doing some testing with representatives under the Dell-Cares moderator account, I'll spare the endless details and mention I'm able to consistently replicate this problem with the BluRay player (I've tested 2 BluRays so far, the only options on these are 5.1 audio and Dolby Atmos, both have the same problem) on the Xbox One X and other audio functions for the most part are fine, I was able to play an emulated Xbox 360 game on my Xbox One X that had bad audio during a cut-scene but seemed fine through normal gameplay, I haven't tested this on my Xbox 360 itself but I will.

To answer your questions:

  1. Yes I know all about "headphone usage" by reading other Dell forums about this monitor.  The powered speakers, powered headphone amplifier, and the regular unpowered headphones have the same result with BluRay playback.
  2. I'm also aware about this monitor's lack of AX510 mounting brackets, right next to the U2718Q I have a Dell 1707FPT which does have them, this isn't a problem for me and I knew this before purchasing the U2718Q.
  3. As for "not tested" with the U2718Q, speakers are speakers, I'm not surprised you would recommend the purchase of another first party Dell product but believe me, I buy enough of your products as it is, you're not losing any money on me.
  4. I'm currently using the Male to Male HDMI cable that came in the box, I'm not using any sort of receiver it's just going right from the Xbox One X to the U2718Q, I've included the images of the only Xbox menus I can find that are relevant to this.
  5. Last but not least, if I use my Dell 2408WFPb (yes this display is about 10 years old) using it's built in HDMI port and its audio out plug, I'm not able to replicate this problem playing BluRays, the audio isn't perfect but it doesn't sound like junk like the U2718Q does with BluRays.

Enabling or Disabling Enabling or Disabling "BD Live" doesn't seem to make any difference, enabling "Let my receiver decode audio" shows an error when Blu Rays are played

Expanding Expanding "HDMI Audio" shows options for "Off", "Stereo uncompressed", "5.1 uncompressed", "7.1 uncompressed", & "Bitstream out" all of which show an error my device doesn't support them.

Thanks for the images. We'll wait to hear from you about the other Audio sources as well. Also, is it possible for you to send a video clip of this issue to SOS@Dell.com
