XPS 13 9350(2015) skylake cannot connect to U2414H using usb c to mini display

Hi there,

I recently purchased a working U2414H monitor from a friend.

I also got this adapter https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B019689IVS/ref=pe_386430_121528420_TE_dp_1

so I can use it for the mini dp in. However, after updating BIOS firmware and even factory resetting the monitor. It has not let me detect the monitor. I am wondering why this happens? Is there a reason why the thunderbolt cannot display to the monitor despite firmware updates? The hardware is correct and have worked on other windows devices. I suspect this is solely software related.

Any help is greatly appreciated. I would avoid having to switch to another laptop and monitor.
