Any problems downgrading storage node from 7.3.2 to 7.2.2

Greetings,

Here's the configuration:
Server node: RedHat Linux V3
Storage node: Tru64 V5.1B-3 PK5

We've recently upgraded this from 7.2.2 Jumbo to 7.3.2 Jumbo. The problem we're experiencing is the 'nsrexecd' process on the storage node aborts causing backups to fail. I've called telephone support about this and they say it's a known problem and a patch is being worked on. No time estimate as of yet. Would there be any problems downgrading the storage node from 7.3.2 back to 7.2.2?

You need to do mmrecov as index, mm and res databases have changed between 7.2.2 and 7.3.2. So simple downgrade is not possible, but going back to 7.2.2 at that point of time is (but you loose all backup done in the meantime with 7.3.2).

Oh wait, you just want to put storage node on 7.2.2? Hm, not sure if that works as changes are rather big between those two... Did support suggested that? If yes then I guess it works, but I have doubts.

I suggest you, if is possible, downgrade the storage node, run a backup and recover on the storage node for tests.

Telephone Support has verified that both the Storage Node & Server have to be at the same version. Also, to downgrade back to 7.2.2 Jumbo would require doing a disaster recovery using mmrecover. No time estimate when the patch will be available so we're going to bite the bullet for awhile and see how much grief this bug causes us before downgrading.

Thanks,
Vic

Do you have bug id for that problem?

Yup, it's LGTsc02263. I tried searching for it but couldn't find anything. Then again, I usually don't have much luck with this search engine.

Did support made you test jumbo update 2? If not I guess issue fresh and not covered by recent code changes.

Hrvoje,

Support said they're still working on the patch so it's not part of jumbo update 2.
