Monthly Cloning for Tape Offsite
Hi All,
I am new to the networker (ver 7.4.3) product and am having difficulty trying to setup an offsite tape rotation for the company I am at. What we are currently doing is the standard nightly inc backups and on Friday evenings doing fulls. The data is written to a DL210 VTL library. Those backups are setup with a one month retention and broswe policy. On top of that we would like have a copy of the last full backup of the month written to physical tape (we have an HP LTO 4 library) to be exported, but have the retention policy for the exported tapes set for a 6 year retention (for compliance reasons). Is this possibe and if so what is the best way to set that up?

It is possible.
Make the HP LTO4 library available to the Networker Server or Storage Node.
Create a policy for your retention of 6 years
Create a schedule for the Last Full backup of the Month
Create a Clone Media Pool
Create a Group with the servers you want to be involved in the Last Full Backup
Check Clone, Select Clone-Pool
Set the Policy of 6 Years on the Clone Pool
See Section 9 of the admin guide.
Or you can script it with the NSRCLONE command, and schedule the script every last day of the month
