Windows Backup fails randomly on open/used files
Hi,
Has anyone experience with networker and open/used files in Windows?
: File D:\xyz.pdf could not be opened and was not backed up. (Access is denied.)
The backup is failing the whole time when there is an file in use and networker is not able to back it up.
One thing what is interesting is that this is mostly happening on Windows 2008 Clients where VSS is used.
Would be great to somehow ignore such files and make networker jump over it or create an alert but let the backup become successfull.
Any help/idea would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks and regards,
Andi

Hi Schallean,
Can you please check, if there is any Antivirus Program running on the client machine. If Yes, Can we Turn off the Antivirus program and re-run the back and check.
Thanks,
Savio

Hi Andi,
What is the NetWorker client version installed on those Windows 2008 Client ?
As the failing clients are Windows 2008, therefore please modify the client resource in NMC and in the Apps & Modules property sheet, add the following in the Backup Command:
save -a '"ignore-all-missing-system-files=yes"'
Re-run the backup again and provide us the full completion errors and the NetWorker version of client and server as well.
Thanks,

Hi Ahmed,
Thanks for your answer we already use the backup command with ignore-all-missing-system-files=yes but we still have the same error.
We are running NetWorker 7.6.4.2 on Redhat Linux 6.3 and the Windows 2008 Client has NetWorker Version 7.6.4.2 installed.
Nearly every Client which has open files and the above value specified or not fails randomly with open/used files.
Thanks,

Hi Savio,
Thanks for the response but unfortunately we are not able to stop the Antivirus Software before backup.
The Server has running Forefront on it and forefront blocks some files which are known from it´s virusfile update list.
Why does networker not skip the files/directories which are in use like it does on some files?
We´ve also opened a support case to ask for a solution to this problem.

Hello,
The problem was related to Microsoft Forefront which kill the networker save job as he tried to access a malware file.
After excluding networker binaries and directories from Microsoft Forefront we were able to run successfull backups.
Problem is fixed.
