Dell 6548P - duplicate VOIP SIP invites

Seeing duplicate SIP INVITES with Dell 6548P switches.

The first SIP INVITE shows up with the phone's Source address.
The second SIP INVITE shows up with the Dell Switch's Source address.

It's not a retransmitted SIP Invite. It is a duplicate.

The only difference is the SOURCE.

Any ideas what would cause this ?

I think you mean 6248P and not 6548p.  There are no 65xx PowerConnect switch models.  This issue was addressed in firmware updates.  Here is a link to the latest firmware 3.3.3.3 download for the 6248P switch.

Also we need to check your configuration for anything with the proxy-arp command on it via cli with the show run command.  If you see proxy-arp and you have not configured it then it will need to be removed manually.

Please keep us updated,

Here is a good source document for configuring VOIP on a 55xx switch.  Do you have 55xx switch or a 6xxx?  I would also suggest updating to the current firmware.

en.community.dell.com/.../configuring-dell-powerconnect-55xx-series-switch-voice-vlan.aspx

From this link you can choose the switch model and then download the firmware if needed.

Hope this helps,

We have nine 6548 switches

Thanks for the link on the how-to guide.
Unfortunately, that only shows how to setup VOIP VLANS on the 55xx switches and is unrelated to our problem.

Our VOIP Traffic is already on its own VLAN.

We are seeing the Dell switches resend the SIP INVITE packets for no reason.

The packet capture also indicates "Resent Packet: True" in the SIP info.

So the question remains... what could be causing the Dell switches to resend the SIP Invite packet ???

Yes... 6248P.  Sorry, I typo'd that four times.

The firmware update appears to have immediately resolved the issue !

Thanks !!
