N3024F brings links down for no reason

Hello everyone,

we have a "star" shaped network where all the peripheral switches are connected to a central N3024F using fiber cable.
Some switches are connected using a 2 port LAG but most of them are using a single cable because the network is still work in progress, others are connected on a single port.

We already experienced a loss of connection to a switch twice (once in august and once in may), to bring back the interface we had to force it down from the N3024F configuration and then bring it back up, so no actions were taken on the peripheral switch but only on the N3024F.

My idea was that the Dynamic LAG with a single cable (the case of the switch we lost) could be a problem and I was planning to configure all the LAGs as static (we shouldn't need the dynamic configuration anyway) but friday night we had a major downtime caused by the same problem occuring on 4 switches at the same time, 2 of them configured with no LAG, the log on the N3024F show this:

Notice Nov 20 21:50:10 DOT3AD ch10 is down.
Notice Nov 20 21:50:10 DOT3AD ch9 is down.
Notice Nov 20 21:50:10 TRAPMGR Link on Gi1/0/22 is failed
Notice Nov 20 21:50:10 TRAPMGR Link Down: Gi1/0/22
Info Nov 20 21:50:10 DOT3AD Interface Gi1/0/19 detached from ch10.
Notice Nov 20 21:50:10 TRAPMGR Link on Gi1/0/21 is failed
Notice Nov 20 21:50:10 TRAPMGR Link Down: Gi1/0/21
Info Nov 20 21:50:10 DOT3AD Interface Gi1/0/17 detached from ch9.
Notice Nov 20 21:50:10 TRAPMGR Link on Gi1/0/19 is failed
Notice Nov 20 21:50:10 TRAPMGR Link Down: Gi1/0/19
Notice Nov 20 21:50:10 TRAPMGR Link on Gi1/0/17 is failed
Notice Nov 20 21:50:10 TRAPMGR Link Down: Gi1/0/17
Info Nov 18 15:06:04 CLI_WEB [WEB:root:192.168.0.1] Disconnected due to Idle Timeout

The solution was the same as before, force down the ports/LAGs and then bring them back up.

So what could cause a problem like this? I know we have an outdated firmware on the switch (6.2.0.5), but could be only that? Should I run some tests on the fibers, the patches and the transceiver? Could be a HW related problem on the backplane itself or to something else like high temps or such things?

Thanks

I found these logs in one of the switch that went down, the "DRIVER" error repeats several times:

Info Nov 20 21:50:10 DRIVER Failed to get usp for mac_addr e8:de:27:06:ae:e4
Notice Nov 20 21:50:10 DRIVER Invalid LAG id 0. Possible synchronization issue between the BCM driver and HAPI
Notice Nov 20 21:50:10 DOT3AD ch1 is down.
Info Nov 20 21:50:10 DOT3AD Interface Te1/0/1 detached from ch1.
Notice Nov 20 21:50:10 TRAPMGR Link on Te1/0/1 is failed
Notice Nov 20 21:50:10 TRAPMGR Link Down: Te1/0/1
Info Oct 29 17:34:19 CLI_WEB [CLI:root:10.21.0.203] User has logged out

Unfortunatly the other switches don't have any usefull logs because they were flooded by DNS errors.

Edit: here the DNS errors in case it's usefull somehow, I'm not sure why one switch didn't log any of them, the log configuration is the same, maybe it's because it's a different model (N2024P instead of PC7048)

Error NOV 23 06:55:30 DNS_CLIEN DNS Client: osapiSocketRecvFrom returned error for addr 10.21.x.x. Indicates there is an error in receiving DNS response packet from the server.

Also to be noted, two switches that went down were PC7048, one was the N2024P and the other one was an HP ProCurve 2530

Just noticed this morning the same log messages in the switch:

Notice Nov 24 11:44:04 DOT3AD ch1 is up.
Info Nov 24 11:44:04 DOT3AD Interface Te1/0/1 attached to ch1.
Info Nov 24 11:44:02 DRIVER Failed to get usp for mac_addr e8:de:27:06:ae:e4
Notice Nov 24 11:44:02 DRIVER

lot of the the last two messages

Info Nov 24 11:44:02 DRIVER Failed to get usp for mac_addr e8:de:27:06:ae:e4
Notice Nov 24 11:44:02 DRIVER Invalid LAG id 0. Possible synchronization issue between the BCM driver and HAPI
Notice Nov 24 11:44:02 DOT3AD ch1 is down.
Info Nov 24 11:44:02 DOT3AD Interface Te1/0/1 detached from ch1.

but no loss of connectivity so far.

Anyone knows what this could be? I'm strggling to fine any infos

Anyone ever find anything on this?  I'm having somewhat similar issues right now on Dell N4064F stacks.

Hey MTSIA5988, can you share with us what the messages look like from your switches? We can help look for a solution.

Thanks

I thought (and still think) that the the main problem for me was the switch, it caused me a lot of other problems when I tried to put it back in production so i'm quite positive it is a faulty hardware.

Unfortunately this morning I saw that during the night two ports of another switch (same model) were down for no apparent reason, the syslog server thath collects the switches' log showed nothing unusual... I'll try to upgrade the firmware when possible.

I am having this same issue on a N2048P stack.

Is this new behavior? Any recent changes to config/network? Are the spanning tree messages ongoing? or do they stop after root is elected? What firmware is the switch running?

How is port channel 1 and 64 configured? Which interfaces are in these port channels and what do they connect to?
