SNMP N15xx switch doesn't answer as described in the MIB file

Hi!

I have a problem starting with DELL Switch Firmware 6.6.x on all N1100, N1500 and N3200 series. We have hundreds of them.

In Version 6.5.x and less I receive correct values from a SNMP query of OID 1.0.8802.1.1.2.1.4.2 . We use these values for creating a topology of our network.

But starting with version 6.6.x there are no data coming from the switch anymore.
A SNMP walk for OID 1.0.8802.1.1.2.1.4 gives only values for 1.0.8802.1.1.2.1.4.1 and 1.0.8802.1.1.2.1.4.4 . Therefore, our topology is now broken.

Would somebody be so kind and try to reproduce this in her/his network?

Does anyone know how to fix this?

Is it a bug or was the OID removed, although it is still included in the mib-files coming with the firmware. Yes, I tried the latest firmware.

Regards

Florian

Hello BeiDerArbeit,

I many need to raise an inquiry to our network engineers.

Which was the most current firmware you tried?

https://dell.to/3laTCco

N1500 Series 6.7.1.20

N1500-ON Serie 6.8.1.0

February 4th, 2023 04:00

Hello Charles,

thank you for looking into this issue.

Yes, I tried both mentioned firmware versions 6.7.1.20 and 6.8.1.0. They do not give any reply to the OID 1.0.8802.1.1.2.1.4.2.

I have some switches running firmware 6.5.4.18 replying correctly.

One switch at firmware level 6.6.0.2 gives no values. Like all others having firmware 6.6.x or above.

So I assume there have been changes from 6.5.x to 6.6.x that kills the output ...

Thank you

Florian

Hello BeiDerArbeit,

The issue has been submitted to our Sustaining Team.

I don't have any information how long it will take, when next version will release or if a fix will be in that release.

I would recommend check when next release is available and check results..

Hello Charles,

unfortunately this issue is not resolved in the new firmware. Would you please be so kind and check whether it will be fixed soon?

It is really killing our tool ...

Best Regards

Florian

Hello I'm wondering after the firmware update, if you also upgraded the bootcode as well.  Also #update bootcode   >> needs to be run after upgrade firmware once that is reloaded in the switch.

April 3rd, 2023 02:00

Hello,

unfortunately the switch is not located in my office, so I can't connect to the console.

The show version command shows exactly what was described in the update document (CPLD Version 7).

And I really don't think this bug is related to the boot code ...

Would you please be so kind and check with your "Sustaining Team" as mentioned by Charles when a fix will be available?

Best Regards

Florian

Hello Florian, you should have the MIB files when you downloaded the firmware from the official support website. That needs to be imported into your SNMP server.

Hello BeiDerArbeit,

A fix has been developed by engineering and is currently being validated. However, I don’t yet have an official version that will include the fix.

Hello BeiDerArbeit,

I have an Update:

The fix will be in version 6.7.1.22 and it is planned to be released mid-to late  June.

I would give it until then or early July and see if it is posted.
