Update old Dell Intel X520-DA2 to latest firmware

Hi!,

We have a few old (2011) Dell Intel X520-DA2 network adapters that we want to firmware update.
Normally we would do this by the Lifecycle controller or if that doesn't work we would load the Dell firmware iso for the specific server model (PowerEdge R730)

However these nics seem to be so old that their not recognized by the server.
If i look at the lifecycle controller for example, go to "firmware > current versions" it's not listing the nic in the component table.

They are genuine Dell Intel X520-DA2 cards, Dell partnumber 0FTKMT.

Could it be that their firmware is too old and that i need an intermediate firmware to get to the latest version?
Or is there another recommended procedure?

Thanks in advance!

Peter

Quick update on my wording: "However these nics seem to be so old that their not recognized by the server."

Meaning the cards work fine with the old firmware, but the server lc doesn't see them and the firmware update iso doesn't update them.

Pbknl,

The issue looks to be compatibility, the x520 (part FTKM1) appears to be supported in the 11th and 12th generation servers, not the 13th generation as the R730 is.

Hope this helps.

I'm not confident that's the issue but just to rule it out i'll give it a go with an old poweredge r710.

Just quick update, it solved my problem partially.

You where right partnr FTKM1 does update on a R720, i still don't fully understand it because if i lay them side-by-side to a newer X520 they at least from a pcb standpoint look 100% identical except for the dell partnr sticker.

Anyway, i now only have a few x520 cards with dell partnr 0U610N that won't update.

Do you know if there's a similar thing going on with these cards/partnrs?

Thanks!

I am not seeing anything for that part number anywhere, could you confirm if it is accurate?

That part number is specific to 11th generation servers (R510, R610, etc)

Worked as well, thanks!

Two questions remaining, is there a list somewhere with partnumbers and match server models?

I never thought this could be the issue, do you know why they do this? Upgrading them in their respected servers all bring them to the same firmware version so i don't fully understand why there's a pairing between the card and the model.

There isn't a master list of parts to server, other than Parts for my  Dell on the webpage, which only shows parts for sale at the time.

The reason likely is that the firmware update includes all the submodels of the card, and the hardware is different per submodel, so therefore supported on specific platforms in my opinion.
