Adapter Antenna For Dell Wireless 1397 WLAN minicard

There is a poor wireless connection on my Studio XPS 1645, it seems that of all the threads I have read switching the antenna from AUTO to AUX  seems to fix it. But, I have not been able to locate this antenna to modify the settings. Help please, it's so frustrating spending £1700 ($2675) on a PC and needing to go and buy more hardware to make it work!

NOt sure of your operating system.

Start, control panel, device manager, network, double click on Dell Wireless 1397 WLAN minicard, advanced. You should see the antenna diversity there. Change it from auto to aux.

Download the System Information Tool If using Vista/Windows 7, the tool needs extracted. Once extracted, right click on sysinfo and run as administrator.

If using XP, double click on the tool, then double click on sysinfo.

Allow this past your virus program and post the information back here.

Dear Pudgyone, Thanks for your selfless support on this forum, almost everywhere I went to search for help, you were always there helping people. I would have preferred to send the info to you privately, but because of the public nature, I changed the physical address, I hope it is not consequential for helping me. Thanks in advance.

BoldJohn,

I see an ip address for the adapter.

Can you connect?

Can you connect if next to the wireless router?

Do you have the drivers saved to your desktop for the Studio XPS 1645 (W7 64-bit)?

If you want, you can click on the green pencil and edit the information, if you feel the information something you don't want shown.

#1. As you can see, I lack the know how.... so I should change the DNS servers? can I call it anything, I mean in the same format?

#2. I have tried to update all the drivers, I don't know what else needs to be done; I can't seem to locate the antenna that can be changed from "Auto" to "Aux" in the interface of the Adapter.

BoldJohn,

I meant to say did you have the adapter drivers saved to your desktop, sorry. I was trying to take small notes so I would rememver which system you had.

Here is a screenshot from my old system, which has a Dell Wireless 1397 WLAN Mini-Card

You can see the setting for antenna diversity.

Thanks for your reply, my own card is different and the way the WIFI on the PC is behaving is just so frustrating. I just managed to figure out how to post my own screenshot on here. It is below:

Btw, I'd appreciate it if you can edit/remove/comment out my DNS server in your own comments as you advised me to do.

Once again, thanks for your selfless help. God bless.

By Mode, I guess you mean IBSS 54g(tm) Mode....

IBSS 54g(tm) Mode = 802.11b Only, 54g Auto & 54g Performance.... set at 802.11b

IBSS 54g(tm) Protection Mode = Auto & Disabled.... set at Auto

Rate = 1, 2, 5.5, 6, 9, 11, 12, 18, 24, 36, 48, 54, Best .... set at Best

RTS Threshold = 2347

FragmentationThreshold = 2346

When I clicked the "Update Driver", the result was that the driver was up to date.

Driver Provider - Broadcom

BoldJohn,

Your DNS server has been removed per your request. I always thought the dns server would be different from the wireless routers default gateway/ I see these posts and the people that have issues, are the ones with the same settings.

Example:

Here are the settings for mine and compare them to yours.

Wireless LAN adapter Wireless Network Connection:

   Connection-specific DNS Suffix  . : hsd1.pa.comcast.net.
   Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Intel(R) Centrino(R) Advanced-N 6200 AGN
   Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 58-94-6B-97-73-08
   DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes
   Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes
   Link-local IPv6 Address . . . . . : fe80::61d4:2c36:da26:2adb%19(Preferred)
   IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.7.101(Preferred)
   Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
   Lease Obtained. . . . . . . . . . : Sunday, May 13, 2012 7:08:37 AM
   Lease Expires . . . . . . . . . . : Monday, May 14, 2012 7:08:40 AM
   Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.7.1
   DHCP Server . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.7.1
   DHCPv6 IAID . . . . . . . . . . . : 492344427
   DHCPv6 Client DUID. . . . . . . . : 00-01-00-01-17-3B-17-54-58-94-6B-97-73-08
   DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 75.75.76.76
                                       75.75.75.75
   NetBIOS over Tcpip. . . . . . . . : Enabled

Note the DNS servers belong to my Internet Service Provider.

Connect with the ethernet cable and try going to the link below.

How can you detect if your computer has been violated and infected with DNS Changer?

What are the options under mode? What about rate?

BoldJohn,

A is the slowest speed, then B. Try 54g Auto or 54g Performance.

Trying to find out what the Antenna Diversity is different.

unfortunately, no difference.

I have tried the various combinations, but it is now at 54g Performance.

I am rebooting, maybe the effect will be after the reboot.

I am trying to get my dell LAN mini card working. When I follow the instructions and right click on wireless 1397 I went to drivers and checked there to update drivers. I get an error message stating the device is not working because windows cannot load the drivers required. Code 31 When I go to drivers and click to update it tells me driver is up to date. I have Vista OS. Dell laptop. Do you have any ideas Thank you
