Dell Inspiron 1545 Wireless Mini Card problems
Hi folks,
I'm having problems connecting my brand new Dell inpiron 1545 to my Router. The laptop can see the router in its list of available networks but when i tried to connect with my WPA key (WPA-PSK security) it didn't work. So then I disabled security on the router completely but it still didn't work. Any ideas what else could be wrong? I did read somewhere that the Dell 1397 WiFi card doesn't do WPA-PSK at all but I would have thought disabling security would've resolved this. Any ideas anyone?
Cheers

jonSquare,
I use these Recommended Wireless Router Settings in my wireless router. I use channel 11. You are not using Mac address filtering are you?
You can try going to device manager and click on network, 1397 wireless adapter and check the antenna diversity. Try changing it to Aux and see if it works.

Hi,
I think i'm having the same problem with my new inspiron 1370.
I can find my wireless network but when i try to connect, it does not work.
i am also using WPA-PSK-TKIP. Two other computer can connect without any problem.
Connection via cable works fine.
I would be grateful for suggestions
thx

Hi, thanks for the suggestions. Well I've managed to change the antenna diversity to aux but that hasn't fixed it. Also I don't see anywhere in my router settings to change the mac filtering. It is rather an old router (Wannadoo Livebox) if that is relevant? One other thing I've tried is to attempt connection to some of the unsecured wireless nets on my street but still no luck there either. Given this information is it possible that the WiFi card itself could be faulty? My other laptop which uses an Atheros wireless adapter card manages to connect fine btw...

jonSquare,
Try running an ipconfig /all log and post it back here.

jonSquare and sebgurt,
Looks like neither one of you have an ip address.
First try, start, all programs, accessories, right click on command prompt, left click run as administrator. Type
ipconfig /release
Then restart your computer. While the computer is restarting, power off your ISP modem/router and your wireless router for 30 seconds. Power on the ISP modem first, wait 20 seconds, then power on your wireless router.
Start your computer and try to connect. If you still cannot connect, here are the settings in the device manager from my daughters Studio 1537 that has a 1397 WLAN Mini-Card
Afterburner = disabled
Antenna Diversity = Auto
AP Compatibility mode = Higher Performance
Bluetooth Collaboration = Enabled (I don't think she has Blue tooth on her computer)
BSS Mode = Default
Disable Upon Wired Connect = Disabled
Fragmentation Threshold = 2346
IBBS 54g(tm) Protection Mode = Auto
IBSS Mode = 802.11b only
Locally Administered MAC Address = Not Present
Location = USA
Minimum Power Consumption = Enabled
PLCP Header = Auto (Short/Long)
Priority & VLAN = Priority & VLAN Disabled
Rate = Best Rate
Roam Tendency = Moderate
Roaming Decision = Default
RTS Threshold = 2347
Wake-Up Mode = Magic & WakeUp Frame
WMM = Auto
WZC IBBS Channel Number 11
XPress (TM) Technology = Disabled
Driver version is Broadcom 5.10.38.26(10/22/2008)
Did you try right clicking on the wireless icon in the taskbar, left click diagnose and repair or try using WinSock XP Fix?

Wow! I had the same problem as these two guys. Seeing the network, but not being able to connect to it wasn't very nice...
PudgyOne, I did everything you mentioned, and I'm not sure whether it was the "ipconfig /release" command or the "WinSock XP Fix" what fixed it in the end, but anyway, now it's working GRRRRREAT! xD
Thank you very much!
