Ftp Sites and Laptops

Why is it I cannot log onto my company's ftp site from several of our in office laptops?  A few of them just has the IE interface and the page is done loading but nothing is on the screen.  Also, on the other ones I lose my internet connection once I try logging in.  Any help is greatly appreciated.  I've already tried everything the google search brings up.  And I've reconfigured everything in the advanced settings for IE. 

So any new ideas, please send them my way!
