Overlapping text on Internet Eplorer

Since I bought my new Vista computer (three weeks ago) I have noticed that on some sites the text is overlapping making it difficult to read.  I temporarily downloaded the BETA version IE 8 which seemed to solve the problem but caused so many crashes I reverted to IE7.  Anyone got any ideas how to fix this.  I have played about with advanced setting on Internet option such as unticking cleartype but nothing seems to fix the problem.
