Recommended Wireless Router Settings

I highly recommend using these settings in your wireless router to get everything to communicate with very minimal problems.

Update the firmware in your wireless router. Manufacturer's website, make & Model needed.

Broadcast SSID(You may want to change this to make it easier to connect)

Use WPA/WPA2-PSK(TKIP) Security(WPA/WPA2 Personal). Most wireless devices work best with this type of security.

Password at least 13 characters long.

Mixed b and g mode(n if available)(Use this mode only if using a print server and/or USB wireless adapter(s))

Use channels 1, 6 or 11. Most devices work better on these channels.

Keep the setting at DHCP.

Do NOT use Mac Address Filtering

Please turn off the firewall in the wireless router.

Some adapters do not like WPS and may need to be turned off.

Disable 20/40Mhz Coexistence (Helps some adapters get faster speed)

Save and exit. Power everything off for 30 seconds. Power everything back on, wait 30 seconds, now try to connect.

***SPECIAL NOTE***

Uncheck a box in the Advanced Setup for wireless.

(uncheck) Enable 20/40 MHz Coexistence

Netgear explains:

Disabling this option allows your 2.4GHz wireless to stay in supporting the max speed. Enabling this option [coexistence] may reduce the max speed of your 2.4GHz wireless to the half when there is another wireless network detected in your environment; this is to avoid interference between wireless networks and to get along with other wireless networks in the environment.

If you have any questions, please post them at Networking, Internet, Wireless Forum

Please remember that WEP can be hacked in ten minutes or less.
