System Doesn't recognize on Board NIC
I have a Sony Vaio laptop that I recently re-partitioned the drive and loaded a fresh copy of Windows XP PRO.
Everything went fine until I connected the network cable to the integrated (on-board) NIC - the system does not show it as a device....
Went into device and it is not there under network adapters...
Also - the Ethernet Controller shows up but no drivers are installed - tried to find drivers on the web - no luck....
Any suggestions?

How to reinstall the ethernet drivers.
Follow this procedure to reinstall the ethernet drivers.
IMPORTANT: This procedure must be performed while logged in as Administrator or to an account with Administrator rights.
NOTE: For some devices, the Microsoft® Windows® XP operating system will display a System Settings Change window. Click the Yes button to restart the computer. The Microsoft® Windows® XP operating system will automatically reinstall the correct driver.
