System Drivers for Windows 98 needed for Belkin Network PCI Card
Please, I just bought the Belkin Network PCI Card, got already a DSL service running,
but can't get the network card working because my PC as well as Win 98 installation CD (also the Win 98 seconds edition CD) doesn't have the system drivers for this card.
How can I get the system drivers?
Thank you in advance

dagmarka,
Assuming you purchased a Belkin F5D5000, the Windows 98 driver can be downloaded here. However, a driver CD should have come with the adapter card. Make sure you are following the installation instructions properly. If/when the installation procedure asks for the Windows 98 CD, make sure you browse to D:\WIN98 on the CD (assuming your CD drive is D:).

Thank you for taking the time and such a fast response.
I do have the latest driver from their installation disk. The technical specialist at Belking told me, I have to get "system drivers" from Dell.
I am tempted to return the card to the store and buy another brand if there is no such a thing as system drivers from Dell for Belkin products, but a problem by Belking failing to support Windows 98 with their product.
What should I do?

dagmarka,
I've not heard the term "syetem drivers" before. It sounds like Belkin technical support is lacking. They should be able to help you get the card installed.
I checked the specifications for the Belkin F5D5000 Desktop Network PCI card (which I assume is the card you have) to make sure it supports Win98. Some network cards only support Win98 Second Edition and higher operating systems. Belkin makes no distinction between Win98 and Win98 Second Edition so the card should work.
Your easiest course of action may be to return the card for another manufacturer. I recommend the Linksys LNE100TX.
You other option is to troubleshoot why the card is not installing properly. During installation, is the card recognized by the system and does the New Hardware Wizard start? Do you receive any error messages during the installation? Where exactly in the installation process does it fail?

Thanks again.
Yes, I bought the F5D5000 Desktop Network PCI card (F5D5000, PCI Card for Novell Netware Client 32).
My PC recognizes at the startup a new hardware if I delete the drivers. I did get only error as it couldn't find the driver file on Win98 CD while installing (the Add New Hardware Wizard field with boxes for marking the CD-ROM driver field), which the error didn't pop up as I installed the driver from the web. It does install, however as I check the adapter fields in the Device Manager, the adapter symbol will have a red x over.
What I did more times:
I deleted the driver, reinstalled, same problem. I got one time an error message while browsing Win98 Second Eddition CD: Can't find 'secur32.dll' file.; ...
I deleted it again, downloaded their web driver (thanks for the link), installed and got an yellow explanation mark over the adapter symbol. I checked the Driver File Detail, there was one name in the top window (sorry, I didn't make a note). In the Provider, File Version, and Copyright fields was 'NOT INSTALLED'. I couldn't get it work though, so I updated it with the installation CD that came with the card (year 2003)and got again the same problem (red x over the adapter). I believe I did everything I could to make it work.
And I believe they failed to provide a complete driver-installation CD. Oh well, I am returning it tomorrow and buying Linksys LNE100TX as you recommend. Will Best Buy have it? Staples (I got Belkin there) had only one more brand and I don't remember what it was now).

dagmarka,
Yes, Best Buy carries several brands, including Linksys. If you catch a rebate you may get it for about $5, otherwise it will run $10-15.

I did have to pay for it $24.99 @ BestBuy, sort of pricey & no rebate, but I rather pay more, than have problems.
