How can I find a list of processors that are supported by the bios for my machine
Hi, I have a Dell Optiplex 3050 tower and I need to get a list of processors that are supported by the bios for this machine.
My current processor is an Intel Core i5 7th Gen - Core i5-7500 Kaby Lake Quad-Core 3.4 GHz LGA 1151 65W BX80677I57500 Desktop Processor
Socket Type = LGA 1151
The Bios version is 1.16.1

SpecificationProcessor type
Re: bios
most recent ver. is 1.17.0, 1.17.0. 1.16.1 (second most recent) should be fine.

Redxps630 has the better answer in this case as spec sheet lists CPU's vaguely and apparently there isn't a Tech Guide for the 3050. There is a list of CPU's in the Owner's Manual, which doesn't always occur. Optiplex 3050 Dell Documentation

@bradthetechnut
Newer models call Tech Guide the Owners manual.
There is more than one Size of 3050 and the BIOS is NOT the same across the various models.
So what works depends on the specific model.
MT (Mini Tower)
DT (Desktop)
SFF (Small Form Factor)
USFF (Ultra Small Form Factor)
MFF (Micro Form Factor)
AIO (All in One)

@speedstep
You already know that I know there's various sized Optiplex's and specs aren't the same for each model. @tomohawk_300154 already specified "tower" in the 1st post. Manual linked in post above is for an AIO.

The Dell validated cpu list for 3050 in the owner manual is identical for tower and SFF. This is because there is no substantial cooler difference between MT and SFF. In 3050 micro w poor cooling, Dell would limit cpu to lower power w T suffix, i5-7500T cpu for example.
of note that the 3050 tower cpu list is by no means exclusive. It only reflects Dell validated cpu for the 3000 series entry level low tier model. All the high tier cpu for optiplex 7050 also work in 3050. It is impossible for Dell to restrict 3050 bios from supporting core i7-7700. It is just the i7-7700 is not offered by Dell for the low tier. It does not mean the cpu is incompatible.
User benchmark confirms i7-7700(k) runs in 3050 even though it is not on Dell cpu list. https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/26016925
7050 cpu list: All cpu on list also work for 3050/5050 tower/SFF.

@bradthetechnut some users identify Desktop model as a tower. Micro is not an issue because it has no slots and requires 35W cpus. Tower is a real problem with these models because its not even the same size as the 9020 Tower model its MUCH Smaller.

Indeed, I linked Optiplex 3050 Dell Documentation in a post above, which includes the various Owner's Manual depending on size and other documentation.
