OptiPlex 5040 Thermal Pad for M.2 drive

I tried ordering from Dell, but was told they don’t sell these things, instead told to use Amazon, etc.

But I cannot find a thermal pad like what is shown in the picture:

https://www.dell.com/support/manuals/en-us/optiplex-5040-desktop/Opti5040MTOM/Installing-the-optional-SSD-card?guid=GUID-1E0127BB-0FDF-43FB-92E9-146C4D6C43A7&lang=en-us

  1. Do I need the thermal pad?
  2. Is it the same as the thermal pads that measure 70x20x1mm or 70x20x1.5mm?
  3. Is it to protect the controller that sits on the motherboard?  What is this controller chip anyway?
  4. Or is it to protect the SSD?

Hi bradthetechnut,  You are right!  But I don't know how to delete posts.  Can you please give me a link for how to do this?  When I tried to modify a post before, I was told that this is considered spam.  Please help.

Editing a post is not considered spam unless spam is inserted.  What did happen when I was a newbie was too many edits would make a post disappear.

There isn't a way for users to delete a post.  Only moderation can do that.
