Hi gertjeb,

The 3020 SFF has an Intel H81 chipset which supports the following CPUs:

http://www.cpu-upgrade.com/mb-Intel_(chipsets)/H81.html

The highest rated CPU that Dell shipped with the 3020 was the i7-4790 so the i5-4670K shouldn't be an issue. However, as the 4670K was never validated by Dell I can't say with 100% certainty.

Another consideration is the heatsink, there are two versions, one for CPUs with a TDP of up to 65W and the other for CPUs up to 95W (the 4670K is rated at 84W)

I hope this helps.

The reason I would say no is because the MAX CPU must be 65W or smaller and thats a 84W cpu.

If you want a 4670 it MUST BE the 4670S model.

The 4790 that works is the 4790S which is a 65W CPU.

The Dell Optiplex 3020 MT will take a Intel i5 4570 84 watt processor.

Likely any Intel i7 processor socket LGA1150 that is 84 watts should not be an issue for the 3020 MT platform.

Hi!

I tried to change the CPU in my 3020 SFF from i3 4160 to i7 4785T but I only get the amber 2,3 error code.

Do you have any clue, why this cpu might be not supported?

Thanks!

Jeno

Hi Gert,

I didn't know that a lower TDP can be a problem. So if I choose an other i7 with higher TDP, it'll work?

Jeno,

it wil not work.

The i3 has a TDP for 54 W and the i7 is 35 W

All the processors wich end with a T at the end are 35 watt

Hi @sherjan ,

No need for duplicate or triple posting.  I did answer you at your other post.  https://www.dell.com/community/Optiplex-Desktops/i5-3570/m-p/7794257#M48214

Hi Alasdair! I would like to ask you if the i7 4770k will work as well on the Optiplex 3020 SFF? Currently, I'm using i5 4590 and it has the latest BIOS A20.00, I know I could get the 8 CPU threads as the benefit of the i7, but my hesitation is, Once I bought the i7 4770k and replaced my i5 4590, what are some issues to be expected?
