Optiplex 3070 BIOS compatibility error in WinPE
Hello,
I'm trying to update the bios on our Optiplex 3070 SFF but I have the error 0x800700d8 (This version of %1 is not compatible with the version of Windows you're running. Check your computer's system information and then contact the software publisher.)
I have downloaded OptiPlex_3070_1.12.0.exe from DELL website and try to install it on WinPE x64.
If I try to install it manually I have the following error:
The version of OptiPlex_3070_1.12.0.exe is not compatible with this version of Windows you're running. Check your computer's system information and then contact the software publisher.
BIOS was under version 1.3.1, I was able to update it using the option "Bios Flash Update" in the boot menu.
I downloaded all BIOS versions from 1.4.4 to 1.12.0 from the DELL website and I have the same error with all of them.
I saw online that some people were facing the same issue but it was never solved.
I have the same issue also with our Optiplex 3060 SFF desktops

Hi @speedstep ,
Thanks for your message however I don't think that it's accurate, we deploy the BIOS update via Windows PE for 6 different models of Laptops.
We face this issue only with this 2 specific models (OptiPlex3060 / OptiPlex3070)
Regards,
Alexandre

3060 and 3070 would require usb 2.0 fat32 bios recovery flash drive or full windows because the bios is signed and intel management engine is required.
Bios via windows PE is not supported.
Error 0x800700d8 means the version of windows aka 1511 is no longer supported and the security certificates have expired. This is also why downgrade is not allowed after signed bios is installed. BIOS downgrade will not be allowed due to BIOS certificates, meaning the current BIOS has changes that cannot be downgraded.

@speedstep
Thanks for your feedback.
However your answer is again partially not accurate. I don't know why you mention Windows version 1511 as I never mentionned it and we are running WinPE (v 10.0.22000) from the latest ADK available.
I assume that for these 2 models I will have to handle the BIOS differently or try to reach the support for professional.
Thank you.

Alexandre

That number is not a build version number of windows.
1507 thru 2004 are EOL and no longer supported.
The bios is signed and the certificates must be installed.
PRE install versions of windows are not supported.
When you open command prompt and type ver it shows the version 10.0.22000.556 is windows 11.
C:\Windows\System32>ver
Microsoft Windows [Version 10.0.22000.556]
C:\Windows\System32>
Windows PE
You can use Windows PE to deploy earlier operating systems.
If you customize Windows PE, make sure to use the WinPE optional components that match the version of Windows PE you're customizing.
Windows 11 is not available in a 32-bit architecture,
so the 32-bit version of Windows PE for Windows 11 is not supported. The last supported 32-bit version of Windows PE is for Windows 10, and can't be used for Windows 11 and Windows Server 2022.
