Optiplex 7010 MT CPU Upgrade

Hi everyone! I currently have an i3-2100, a gtx 1060 3gb, and an evga 400w 80+ B in my Optiplex 7010 MT. I recently put in the 1060, and the psu. The i3-2100 is still a good cpu, but it has been bottlenecking me in games. I was wondering if I can put in a Xeon E3-1225 v2, an i5-2400, or an i5-3470. Just wanted to know which ones would work, and if you guys have any others suggestions for cpus. Btw I'm fine buyig used, and my buget is roughly 25-30 dollars usd. Thank you very much in advance!

Optiplex 7010 Tech Guide

A Xeon isn't needed to go with a GTX 1060.  See screengrab below.  In order for a 7010 to take a Xeon, 3 things would have to be the same, including matching the 7010's chipset - Socket type, chipset, and CPUID signature.  Those things can be Googled.  Chipset can also be found in the Tech Guide.

I7-3770 is listed tops for the 7010.  You might still have some bottleneck issues with an i5-3470.  Far as I know, the i5 would have to be 3rd gen.

My post above was edited.

I don't know that @Pompono needs 2 Tech Guides.

I couldn't get a "B" model to come up for your PSU. Mainly N1 came up.

If you run into power issues, it's likely because the 400w PSU only has 110w combined on the 3.3v/5v rails, less than a Dell PSU.  One of our Rockstars regulalry recommends the EVGA 700w B1 or BR psu, as it has 150w combined on the 3.3v/5v rails.

EVGA 400w PSU specs above.

EVGA 700w PSU label above.

EDIT:  I also saw 120w listed for the 400w N1 PSU on the aforementioned rails.  The Dell 275w PSU has 100w on those rails.  You'll likely be fine.  Screengrab from 7010 Tech Guide below:

"What do you mean?"

Not sure what you're asking about.

Intel Xeon E3-1270 V2

and

Intel Xeon E3-1240 V2

actually as long as the Xeon is ivy bridge (lga1155 socket) and has same cpuid as i7-3770 (such as Xeon E3-1225 v2), it will likely run in 7010.

the quad core cpu list I sent before was validated by Dell.  It is not exclusive.  Ivy bridge chipset is backward compatible with Intel 2nd gen Sandy bridge cpu.  For example, quad core i7-2600 and i5-2400 runs in 7010, although it is not validated by Dell.

The "I don't think I need two tech guides" What do you mean by that?

I said that because I already linked a tech guide and then redxps630 linked the same tech guide.  Nothing more to it.

@redxps630 I found a really good price on an e3-1225 v2, will it work 100%? If not I'll just get an i5-3470 or wait a little and get an i7-2600 or 3770

Xeon E3-1225 v2
will most likely work in 7010MT.

user report “I have just installed Xeon E3-1220 v2 in Optiplex 7010 DT and it works like a charm. No issues whatsoever. Turbo Boost works, all instructions sets are supported, single and threads performance is as per passmark scores so it is 100% supported.”
