USB Passthrough On a PE2950 using ESXi 4.x or 5.x

Hello,

I think I'm using the right terminology.  If not, please let me know.

I need to be able to connect up an external USB hard drive to a PE2950 and present the drive to a VM (Windows Server 2008 R2 x64).  Will the PE2950 do that? I've done some research and asked a couple of my VMWare guru buddies.  The best answer I can get is that it should.  I'd really like to know before I go to all the trouble of build the server up.  I have an HP DL380 G5 and that won't it (at least I've not been able to figure it out or find any definitive info).

Thanks in advance,

Greg Wilkerson

Greg,

You can use the USB  passthrough on ESXi, there are requirements though. These links will take you to the supported devices lists, as well as the requirements and limitations .  Can you make sure that your setup as it shows and let me know?
