720 diskless to RAID
Hello,
Looking to upgrade my 720 which is the 8x3.5 I believe. I am not sure what all is needed besides the RAID card. Can anyone confirm if I will need any cables for this as well? The service tag is . Any help is appreciated.

Yes, you could also go this way, and theoretically, it should work with the cables that are already installed. So you do not need to purchase additional ones.
If you find one H710 mini, go fo it.

Hi c0d3man,
yes, the system is the 8x3.5 configuration.
What do you want to upgrade? What is the goal of the upgrade?
Let me know.
Cheers

Thank you for the response. I just need a simple RAID controller. I need a secondary place to store VM's when I am doing maintenance on our SAN. The mini RAID controller H730 or something like that is what I am thinking. My understanding is I would need the mini RAID card as well as the Mini SAS to Perc cable. if you could help me with the exact part numbers of what I would need I would be forever greatful.
Thank you.

Hey,
ok, makes sense. The R720 utilizes the PERC H710P (D0JMF ... ASSY,CRD,CTL,H710P,1GB,NV,LPF)
You also need this cable twice (MPXC8), they connect from the controller to the backplane.

Thank you. So this is a PCI slot card correct? I see they also have the mini raid controller card in this version.

I just went and looked at the server. I have cables running from the backplane to the motherboard right next to the mini Raid card slot. Would this mean that I could just buy the mini Raid card?
