I looked at the parts list, fortunately there are just 2.5" and 3.5" carriers, there aren't any specifically designed for the front or the rear of the chassis. I do have a variety of part numbers, X7K8W is one of those. You should be fine to use it in either location.
I can confirm that when the server arrived. Both front and rear 3.5” drives and caddies are identical parts ordered through the dell system, and we have created a mirrored array for the operating system in the rear flex bay using the one from the front.
This allows the use of large 3.5” drives purchased elsewhere for the 12 bays at the front.
Thank you. I’m behind to think the difference in the description during the order process is purely for so that dell staff will know which drive is going in which drive bay when it is assembled and shipped. I have now ordered the server with one 480GB SSD drive bay, and will see what turns up.
