New HDD selection for an PE R520 server

Jump to solution

Hello,

being in need of storage amount extension for an PE R520 server, but in doubt of certain hardware pieces compatibility. May I please ask here to clarify whether or not the following devices will be compatible and working together properly?

Having PowerEdge R520, BIOS v. 2.7.0, with PERC H710 Mini with 21.3.5-0002 firmware. Will it work with these DELL HDDs:

  1. 400-AMSF (3.5" 8TB NL-SAS 7200 RPM NL-SAS 12Gbps)
  2. 400-AMPP (of pretty same or similar characteristics)
  3. 400-19838 (3.5" 600GB SAS 10K RPM SAS 6Gbps)

Many thanks in advance!

iag042016,

I researched the drives you inquired about, and from what I see, only #2 is actually showing a supported on the R520 platform.

Hope this helps.

Yes, for sure, this helps. Particularly, it’s clear now that R520 supports (some of) 8TB drives, and that is an appreciable step forward.

Thanks a lot!
