Hello

A drive is put into a blocked state if there is a communication issue. That communication issue can be caused by a difference in feature set. Your issue appears to be caused by the H310 not supporting 4K block size. I don't think any controller prior to PERC9 supported 4K, installing an H710 will not fix the issue.

The H730 is not supported on the R320. We changed the type of SAS cables/connectors that we use with 13th generation and PERC9. You would need to use a converter or adapter of some sort to connect an H730 to the R320 backplane. I don't know if that is possible or if it would work. Supported controllers for the R320 should be listed in the legacy section of our PERC page.

I tried a 12TB 512e drive and it was also blocked. I thought the H710 supported 512e drives

I can confirm that a 14TB Seagate Exos X16 model ST14000NM001G (512e) was recognized by the H710 controller in a PowerEdge R320.  Windows formatted it as NTFS and reports it as 13,038.48 GB.

@BillVo I'm facing the same problem pairing a 14TB ST14000NM001G with H710mini on an R420. Can you share how you made this work? Thanks!

Some time has passed since I did this.  I don't recall any particular hoops I had to jump.  I believe it just worked.  I would confirm that the PERC firmware and BIOS are current.  See screen images from OpenManage below.

I mounted the 14TB drives in this R320 server for testing before transferring them to another server for production use.
