S300 to Perc6/i migration

I have a r510 using a s300 raid controller.  Since we now need to run VMware esx, I need to migrate to a hardware raid controller, most likely a Perc6.

Question is, can I perform this migration without having to reformat the raid array?

There is no direct migration from software RAID to hardware RAID ... you will need to create RAID on the PERC 6, then restore/image data to it.

Almost be easier to get another host, and do a physical to virtual conversion of the current data.  Or maybe you have another host?

As you are currently running something other than VMware, you have to do a backup and restore anyway as the filesystem will be something other than VMFS (the only one that ESXi will support for storing (local) VMs).

As JOHNADCO mentioned; a P2V may be a better approach, but it'll require 2 servers (the original server and the new VMware host).
