SCSI 3 or SCSI 2 drives

the company my wife works at was getting rid of some older servers. so for free i got a 4100/200, it has (3) 3.64 mb scsi 3 drives. a RAID II controler and 1 gig of ram.

I would like to upgrade the drives by replacing the three i have and add three more, but i not sure if i can use scsi 2 instead of scsi 3?

also only three of the six drive trays have the adapters and cables, where can i obtain the three i will need? and how much will each one cost?

Hi,

The Perc II is an UltraWide controller, most u160 hard drives are backward compatible if jumpered to Single Ended. I have seen users report success with upto 36Gb drives, but the largest installed by Dell is 18Gb. The controller does need to have the latest firmware installed:

Perc II - Firmware, v. U84/C81, A02
File Name:  PERCU84.exe
http://support.dell.com/filelib/format.aspx?ReleaseID=R15115

One other "gotcha", the Perc II has a boot array size limitation of 12Gb. Secondary (data) arrays can be as large as necessary.

The Hard Drive Carrier part number is 06483 and the SCA adapter and cable assemby is 51163.
