2850 not accepting new CPU's I installed

Hello,

I purchased a matching pair of processors on ebay to upgrade my dell 2850 server. After installing the processors, I keep getting this error about CPU being wrong revision.

The cpu's I bought are Intel Xeon SL8MA DP 2.8GHz Dual Core 4M 604 SL8MA CPU Processor

I am running the A07 BIOS.

Is there any setting I can change in the BIOS to make these processors work? Or am I for some reason out of luck and have to buy another pair of processors?

Thanks in advance.

Dual-core processors will ONLY work on the very rare 2850 II.  Which version do you have?  If you aren't sure (there is a II in the upper-left corner of the front chassis - or it will report the revision in OMSA), what is your motherboard version/part number?

Doodguy,

Do you have the motherboard part number to confirm if these Paxville CPU's will work on this server?

These will support the Paxville:

XC320,CD158

I agree with previous post.  Most 2850s are G1 and only take single core processors.

You need a 2850 G2 to accept Dual Core Procs.

We could hook you up with a cheap 2950 if interested.

Yes, it will.  I believe it will take up to 3.8GHz as well, as long as they are single-core.

Nocona or Irwindale class processors will work in your server on the current board.
