DRAC How to

Hello,

I have dell 2950 server, I would like to configure DRAC on this server. First I would like to make sure that DRAC is available on my server or not, how will i confirm this, please suggest me on this.

I have only two ports at the back side of the server, Can i use this port as DRAC or do i need to buy a separate DRAC card from Dell ??

During the system boot it gives me an option to enter into DRAC configuration, so my assumption is that DRAC feature is already available in my server and I do not need to buy DRAC Card from server, Please correct me if i am worng.

I tried configuring the IP address in the DRAC configuration settings, But I am not able to ping that IP from other machine.

Please advice me on this.

Thanks in advance.

Check your system here: http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/my_systems_info/details?~ck=ln&~tab=2&c=us&l=en&lnki=0&s=gen

if there stands something with DRAC then you should have one built in. Besides the DRAC-port has normally some symbol like a wrench.

As far as I know some Dell PowerEdge servers have a server monitoring tool where you can configure an IP - don't mix it up with DRAC.

The DRAC is an addon card that lays up against the motherboard. It has a dedicated NIC, so if you do not have a 3rd NIC port on the back of the PE2950, then you did not order the server with a DRAC. By default, the server ships with a BMC and IPMI is available. IPMI will provide you with basic remote management functionality such as power on, power off, and you can obtain the SEL log.
