Dell PowerEdge R240 NVMe

We are building out some Dell R240 servers.  We wanted to know what NVMe solutions are available.  Can we install NVMe U.2 into the drive bay slots?  If so, then how many can be installed?  Can we install an NVMe card into the PCI-e slot?  Any P/Ns would be very helpful as well for ordering purposes.

We do not have a RAID controller and there is 1 x 450W power supply (in case power is an issue wanted to add these notes).

Thank you for your time and support.

Unfortunately R240 does not support NVME drives on the backplane or PCIe Slot.

You can refer below link for supported backplane drives.

Below link have list of PCIe cards supported on R240

Hope this helps

Are you certain they will not work?  Or is this just simply something Dell has not tried so they are saying not supported?

There are ways to get NVMe to work for older 12th gen servers... so I feel like there has to be a way to get NVMe to work on a 14th gen server... specifically the R240.

Thank you Shine

If there is no solution for PCIe... then is there an NVMe solution with M.2?  This thread online does not appear to work...

Connecting NVMe drives to the backplane of R240 will not work as these backplane does not support NVMe connectivity.

Adding NVMe PCIe card is not supported on R240. Unsupported does not mean it will not work. As it is not supported it is not validated, hence we can not guarantee that it will work. You can also wait for another community member who tried this combination and share their experience.
