Dell Poweredge R810, how do I get it to work?

I recently bought a ton of poweredge r810 parts and have about everything but hdds, a case/chassis, the control board, the LCD board, and maybe other stuff I don't know about? I was unable to get it to post, all that happened was the little led by the button on the back blinked and changed colors when I pressed it.. the i/o board also only seemed to want to work while getting nice and comfy with the mobo.. whats up and what do i need?

Hi John,

Try POSTing with nothing except these minimum components installed:

  • System board
  • I/O board
  • Risers 1 and 2 (slots #6 and #32 pictured)
  • One processor with heat sink
  • One power supply
  • Power distribution board (slot #27 pictured)
  • Two DIMMs in sockets A1, A2 (lockstep pair)
  • Control panel with cable

Keep in mind that the minimum system memory is 2GB with a single CPU, so each DIMM needs to be at least 1GB.

Thanks,
