poweredge 2950 iii memory upgrade

Hello,

I wana upgrade my poweredge 2950's  ram to 8 gb. I bought a pair of kingston pc2-5300 ( kvr667d2d4p5k2/8g ), but it was not compitable with server's ram slot.  Server has now hynix hmp564f7ffp8c, its ddr2 too. But kingston's and hynix's rams are not same.

The picture's link is below.

Does Dell produce its own ram and motherboard ?

Thank you.

Good morning.

It appears that the Kingston DIMM's you have purchased are not fully buffered. The pin count is correct, the other numbers match up, but reading the technical specifications, it shows the Kingston memory is registered with parity.

You will need  the following:

Part #: A2257233 DIMM,4G,667M,512X72,8,240,2RX4  (2x4gb kit)

The 9th generation of PowerEdge servers introduce fully buffered memory.

Fully-Buffered Double Data Rate Synchronous DRAM Dual In-Line Memory Modules (FBD) utilizes the standard for Double Date Rate 2 (DDR II) SDRAM. FBD modules are Fully-Buffered on the module at the high-speed Advanced Memory Buffer (AMB). Unlike normal DIMM modules which are connected in parallel to the memory controller, FBD modules are connected in a point-to-point serial architecture.

Or if you prefer Kingston memory, be sure to buy memory that's certified for a PowerEdge 2950 (from www.kingston.com/.../search).
