Is this the R210 or R210 II? If the II, you cannot use the S-series controllers with 2016 (you shouldn't use them under any circumstances).

The S100 is a driver-based controller. It does not use a generic driver that may be native to the operating system. The S100 driver must be installed manually or one of our OS installation utilities must be used to install the driver.
Windows 2012 and later operating systems are not supported with the S100. Some have been able to get the S100 to work on 2012 by using drivers designed for other operating systems. I do not recommend doing that, but if you want to try you can. Here is an article about the limitations of the S100 in regard to 2012 and later OS support. It also has our suggested method of disabling RAID functionality for use on unsupported operating systems:

S100 isn't on the spec sheet for the R210, but same idea. The S100 is also not compatible with 2012+. Turn it off. Never use S-series controllers. Ever.

So are you saying 2016 won't run with any the S300 Perc RAID card? Should I just cable the drives directly to the motherboard?

Hello,
As you can see in the thread linked below, the S300 can run Windows. However, it is not a supported configuration. The only recommendation we could make would be to use a supported operating system; the latest Windows revision the R210 supports being Server 2012 R2.
