Try changing the sata setting in bios from ahci to ata mode.

Hi

I installed sbs 2008 sp2 in SEAGATE 80 GB and completed successfully. Then I cloned the same with 500 GB SEAGATE and fixed . SBS 2008  starts in the normal mode and restarts automatically.I disabled the automatic restart on failure and got this message STOP: C00002e2 Directory Services could not start because of the following error:

A device attached to the system is not functioning

Can anybody kindly help please?

( You can check the issue which is going on unsolved at social.technet.microsoft.com/.../aa1bc4b0-943e-4ada-8de1-e03161c8fc2c)

I am posting this for Dell also so that I can get help from somebody

Download the diags program from here:www.dell.com/.../DriverDetails

Run it on a desktop, it will give the option to create a bootable cd image, boot USB stick etc. Boot the T100 from the media and select 'Express tests'. This will check the hardware. Also you could run the MPmemory tests as well.

I have already done this tests no errors. What is the problem existing in this model is no support for changing the sata setting to ahci & ata i.e. swapping of this setting.

Windows 2008 R2 is getting installed in this server properly with the same hdd I am using & also windows sbs 2008 sp2 is getting installed properly in 80 GB SATA SEAGATE HDD

Only problem is this hdd for sbs 2008 sp2.

How to solve?

The cloning process completed succesfully and fixed the 500 GB .After starting with 500 GB, the server starts and the windows sbs 2008 screen comes up, restarts automatically.I disabled the automatic restart on failure and got this message STOP: C00002e2 Directory Services could not start because of the following error:

Just thinking out loud. The 80gb disk was probably 512byte sectors, the 500gb is advanced format 4k sectors. Wonder if the cloning process actually completed succesfully.

If cloning not successful, then how 500 GB boots into first ...................

I think there is some problem in 512 emulation for 4k sectors. which has to be solved out!

Now almost it came to an end of the story.I fixed a SATA 80 GB and loaded the sbs 2008 and put this 500 GB as the slave hdd to it.

I cannot hold the server for troubleshooting and forced to fix the issue in this way instead of searching for a solution taking time.

Anyway thank you for your valuable help

N.B: You asked me to set the bios date two weeks back. How it will lead to a successful installation? what is the concept behind the date behind two weeks?

Regards

I was googling the error message and came across a post about SBS where the hardware was fine but getting the error. The guy finally managed to track it to the AD database and a mis-match in the tombstones. Setting the clock back matched the system to the database. So it was a random thought that would be easy to try.
