Upgrading from Windows 2000 (SP4) to Windows 2003 (SP2) on a PowerEdge 2900

Hello,

Got a bit of a problem when upgrading a PE2900 to Windows 2003 server, i've seen this with XP as well. The upgrade runs fine until around 34 mins, installing drivers, after a few screen flashes acces to the USB keyboard and Mouse are lots and when prompted for the drivers for other hardware you can't get any further. The problem is the 2900 has no PS/2 ports so can't get around it this way.

I upgraded a PE 2800 which had this problem, but these have PS/2 ports so i could get around this problem, however I upgraded another 2900 either with the same problem, had to resort to powering the server off and then on, which restarted the setup procedure, this time round the USB seemed to go off and then back on again, but the keyboard and mouse stayed active and allowed me to install the required drivers and completre the upgrade to Windows 2003 Server (SP2).

Turning any server off during an upgrade is a heart stopping moment, but this seems the only way to complete the upgrade.

Surley there must be a better way of avoiding this ?

Any comments would be greatfully accepted

Cheers

Mark
