PowerPath on Linux

Hi Guys,

I am helping an important customer in China to test PowerPath now, but we meet a problem.

The customer's platform is RedHat6.2,  for some reason they update kernel to a modified  kernel downloaded  from below url:

https://github.com/alibaba/ali_kernel_rpm/tree/6u

PowerPath can be installed normally, but when we start powerpath, we got error as below:

[root@JXQ-23-35-2 ~]# /etc/init.d/PowerPath start

Starting PowerPath: FATAL: Error inserting emcp (/lib/modules/2.6.32-220.23.1.el6.x86_64/powerpath/emcp.ko): Invalid module format

PowerPath could not load module emcp

Error loading PowerPath kernel modules

failed

We have tested all 5.7 version,  but the issue can't be fixed.

Is there any help?

thanks.

hi han,

Are there any error during PP installation? Have you verified the ali linux distribution is fully supported by powerpath x.x version? I believe it's hard to say powerpath can work well for highly customized linux kernel.

I believe you may open case to support to verify the compatibility.

PowerPath does not support customized kernels. This is probably why you are seeing this "invalid module format" error.

It's interesting that the kernel version seems still to be "2.6.32-220.23.1.el6" which is the RedHat stock kernel version. I'd expect to see a different string here.
