Move MD3200 to new server

We have a MD3200 Direct Attach Storage unit that we need to move to a new server.

  • Both old and new servers are Windows Server 2016.
  • We use the MD3200 for file storage only.  It shows up as drive E on the server.
  • We are NOT using a cluster.  Just stand alone server.

When I disconnect the MD3200 from the old server, attach it to the new server, then go into management and allow new server to see the virtual disks, the drive letter shows up on File Manager but only as RAW storage that needs to be formatted.  When I move the MD3200 back to the old server, the drive letter shows up as NTFS and I can see my files again.

I must be missing a step.  How can I get the same virtual disks to show up on the new server as NTFS volumes so the new server can see my stuff as the old one did?

Hi,

Which HBA are you using on each server?

Dell 6Gbps HBA same model on both servers.  H200, I think is the model.

I would make sure that the firmware is at the same version. Does the new controller see all of the drives?

Yes, the new controller sees the volumes.  It just marks them as RAW.
