DELL Precision 7530 crashes with Thunderbolt Port use
I have been using this workstation for nearly a year. It is an amazing machine but cursed by issues related to thunderbolt ports. There is no reliable way to connect standard USB (USB-A) devices to this machine via the thunderbolt ports. USB-C to USB-A adapters are quite popular but not safe to use with this machine. I have had abrupt power failure when trying to connect external hard drives this way. I initially thought this was due to power consumption issues as flash drives and a DELL portable DVD drive would connect without issue. However, I have read other users having problmes even with flash drives. I had a system replacement and stopped using the thunderbolt ports for a while apart for using with flash drives and DVD drive.
The issue is definitely due to DELL firmware issues either chipset or other driver. I can say this because I had no issues at one point as shown,
I recently updated all outstanding drivers hoping that DELL will have found and resolved any issues. Despite chipset and thunderbolt firmware updates I don't think this issue is addressed. Today I tried to connect my DELL DVD drive via the thunderbolt port using USB-C to USB-A adapter as shown above and the system crashed with abrupt power failure.
Without having to spend on expensive DELL docks which also have very bad reviews, I feel the thunderbolt ports will only work with dedicated thunderbolt devices and standard USB devices can only be safely used via the 2 USB ports on the right. DELL needs to recognize this issue and run compatibility testing.

This has been an on-going issue for me for months.
Any time this happens I get very worried because the laptop refuses to boot (gives 2 white 1 amber power light flashing indicating CPU failure).
Upgrading the BIOS and firmwares is painful because Dell's Support Agent blue screens my Windows 10 install, so an automated install of updates is not possible. Thus I've had to hand install everything.
The moment I plug anything into the 2 left USB-C / Thunderbolt ports, the laptop hard powers down and will not power up for about 30 minutes.

Be warned.
This eventually fried my CPU, resulting in a warranty return to Dell.
I suggest that you return the laptop to Dell while your warranty is still in effect.
This happened with Dell branded USB C external hard disk too!

Same problem here. I have installed windows 11. Anything you try to plug in the thunderbolt ports, even a usb-c cable, results in blue screen and noise. I was using regularly the thunderbolt ports the last month without any problem (not so frequently in the past). The problem appeared after a day of heavy processing. I don't remember installing a new driver...

Experienced the same issue with my DELL 7540 when using the Thunderbolt port with my portable HD. There is no power. I don't have Dell warranty. Does the power return ?
I also performed the M-BIST test. The battery LED did not flash (which I think as per the manual is a good sign). Any suggestions ? Please advise.
Thank you
Update:
I reset the CMOS battery and everything worked normally. I have not tried the thunderbolt port since. Plan to do so with a USB C hub connecting my portable HD.
Thanks

1.Disconnect Battery
2.Plug Power Supply
3. Hold Fn+Power
4. Exit Test and The System Boot is work again
