Dell Precision M6800 1600x900 eDP conversion?

Hello Dell community. So about a month ago I bought a Precision M6800 with a dead motherboard (DP/N XWC1M) and I just got around to replacing it. I didn't really look into the differences between model numbers of motherboards and bought a refurbished GDMGC board which used eDP for the internal display standard, rather than the original board which used LVDS. I am wondering if I buy the eDP cable (DP/N 8XC05) for my 1600x900 screen and replaced the LVDS cable if it would work, or would I just have to spend even more money on a 1080p display? Some of the eBay sellers claim they will work with the HD+ screen which I think is the 1600x900 resolution, correct me if I'm wrong. In theory I think it should work since in my mind, if eDP is anything like normal display port, it should pick up on the screen resolution. Thanks for responding!
