Upgrading M4500 HDD to SSD

Greetings,

I have decided to upgrade my current HDD to a 500GB Crucial SSD. According to everything I've read about the subject I gather that I can clone my old drive. But I do want the current OS which is Windows Insider Version 2004, OS build 19037.1 But I don't anything else from that raggedy HHD for fear of contamination. So could I put the blank virgin SSD in and then boot to my USB with the latest WIP build version on it,There by hopefully giving me a true clean install.

Granted my M4500 is not on the "Preferred" list of Dell's units worthy of additional BIOS and driver updates for Windows, but here we are a year later and this particular M4500 is still put to task 8 to 20 hours a day with no problems.

  1. Can I switch to a SSD
  2.  Can I go to 16GB of ram I7-920xm
  3.  Could someone please give me some basic guidance on how to accomplish the above, so I can shame Dell and say I told you so.

  Best Regards,

You can go to this page and after signing in can download the newest WIP version. There are instructions on the page for creating a bootable USB flash drive, unless of course you already have it on flash drive.

As for the updates the page at Crucial has compatible hardware. According to their page since you have a quad core CPU you can upgrade to 16 GB of RAM and install an SSD up to 2 TB in size. That page is here.

So..

1) Yes

2) Yes

3) Read the above.
