cursor moves by itself

I am using dell precision 3520. My cursor is moving by itself and always to the left edge of the screen. It happens once every few minutes and stops in 5-10 seconds. When it happens, my touchpad is no longer responsive but I can override the cursor random movements by a mouse. I am sure it is not OS-related. Disabling the touchpad does not work.

If this is happening with the touchpad disabled, then maybe it's the other pointing mechanism that is at root cause? did you try another mouse? just curious.
