Dell All in One 942.

Printer makes a load whirring noise as it sets itself up, on pressing print the noise continues, and the paper feeds out continually.

Not had a lot of use, any solution?

hasty22,

Can you make a copy of a document when you put it under the glass? B&W and color?

hasty22,

Start, control panel, printers, your printer, printer preferences, advanced, more options and make sure the complete-a-print boxed are not checked.

You are using Dell Series 5 ink cartridges, correct?

Unplug the printer from the wall. Now remove the power brick from the back of the printer for 60 seconds. Plug everything back in. This will reset any error messages the printer has.

Power on the printer. Open the printer and take out the Dell Series 5 Black cartridge. make sure all the tape is off the cartridge and put the cartridge back in. Now do the same for the Dell Series 5 color cartridge.

Close the printer. It should print an alignment page. Any error messages?

Black cartridge = black side(left side)          color cartridge = color side(right side)

Photo cartridge = black side(left side)         color cartridge = color side(right side)

Dell Series 5 ink cartridges have a sensor in them that cannot be reset. Article on refilling Dell ink cartridges.

Dell Series 5 ink cartridges can be purchased at Staples, Walmart or Dell's Website.

It is also possible to get a new ink cartridge with a bad sensor. Please take it to the place of purchase for a refund or a replacement one.

Thanks for the help, it's my daughters printer,  and now it turns out she decided to use refils, much against her dads advice. Is there any way of cleaning the printer and having a fresh start.

regards

hasty,

If it's messy inside, try using a lint free cloth, something like a coffee filter and clean out where the in cartridges are. Unplug the printer from the wall. Have her also remove the power brick, square black thing at the back of the printer for 60 seconds. This resets any error messages the printer is getting.

Get new Dell Series 5 ink cartridges from Staples, Walmart or Dell's Website.

That should get everything working again.
