Using a Dell 1110 laser printer with a Mac-book

What can I do to link my 1110 laser printer to my son's Mack-book? I inserted the printer's software CD into the printer and attempted to print something.  The Mac-book acknowledged the presence of the Dell printer and indicated it was sending the data.  The printer whired for 5 seconds and then stopped.  Any ideas out there?
