System BIOS has halted due to Non-Maskable Interrupt (NMI).

Hello

I have server PowerEdge R6515with PCIe network card.

After I replaced the network card with PCIe SSD storage, I got the below mentioned error

System BIOS has halted due to Non-Maskable Interrupt (NMI).

Any advice what to do?Screenshot from 2022-12-22 09-00-59.png

Hello @maherkhalil,

Well, I would say that there can be several reasons for this error. First, maybe the PCIe SSD is not compatible with the server. Do you know what PCIe SSD? I would need to know exact model.

Second, you should consider go for a clear flea power operation. How do I Reset and Drain Power of my Dell PowerEdge Server? https://dell.to/3Wh9B6l

Lastly, make sure all firmwares are up-to-date.

If problem persist, and we can confirm the PCIe SSD is fully compatible, you might need to contact support for log analysis and a possible hardware replacement.

Regards.

PCIe type is  Samsung MZPLJ1T6HBJR-00007 1.6TB Solid State Drive

I installed 2 nos., the first one on the empty slot abd system detects it while the second one on the place of the network card, system crashed as mentioned above

I believe the issue lies in the type of nvme you're using and your riser configuration. I would suggest looking at the riser config and nvme pci allotments, as dictated by the risers installed, in the guide on page 61-64 here. With you saying 1 works fine but 2 doesn't it makes me think you don't have the necessary riser configuration.

As per the manual slot 3 can be NVMe SSD or Mellanox 25 G, I think the problem is that BIOS insist / wants previously installed NIC card Mellanox 25 G. wo we do replace the nic card with NVMe SSD, it will halt at the boot.

do you have any suggestion how to properly to remove it?

Hi, looks like the card is not supported and as you are aware you can just remove and it'd be good to go. There is no particular guide available on it. May we ask why? Are you having some issues removing the card? Just being cautious? Wish you a good one.

The card is supported. I installed 2 one of them work without any problem and the second which replace NIC card does not work.

I think dell locked the slot for NIC card only.

Server already sent to datacenter for racking. I can access only iDRAC.

do you think from attached photo, the cable already configured? Web capture_27-12-2022_18132_104.149.228.78.jpeg
