RM does support Recoverpoint in a VmWare ESX environment.

You can use RM for VMFS Datastores or RDM LUNs. For VMFS Datastores, RM doesn't care what the VM OS is as long as each OS has VMWare Tools installed.

No, it can also be used in a Linux Envirionment. Full Details of all OS that are supported on a VM Environment can be found in the RM Support Matrix.

Your best bet to use RP in ESX environment is to use it with RDMs, less hassle than with VMFS luns.
