ScaleIO 2.x and XenServer 7

Team, you have any information about support of ScaleIO on XenServer 7?

Have same question!

Hi guys,

To my best knowledge, Xen 7 support will be introduced in version 2.0.1.2 - it's already GA, but the Xen 7 tests are still ongoing, so they might be available in the near future - can't say it will be a few days or weeks at this stage - should I know, will post it here, in the meantime please watch the ScaleIO Downloads page at support.emc.com.

Xen 7 support is also planned for ScaleIO 2.0.1.3 which should be released in late Q1/2017.

Hope that helps!

Pawel

In the meanwhile, is there a way to force the installation on a unsupported XenServer 7 deployment from a 2.0.1.2 version?

Would XenServer 7.1 supported also on the upcoming release?

I doesn't look like version 7.0 is supported on 2.0.1.2

Thank you

Martin

XenServer 7.1 already public. I am wondering... should I upgrade to 7.1 in my test lab to test it with ScaleIO o stick with 7.0 and wait until 2.0.1.3

Dear SIO Team

same issue here, we need the sdc scini.ko module running on XenServer 7 .

###############################################################################

Verifying scini.ko against current system kernel.

Module kernel version: 3.10.0.el7.x86_64

Running kernel version: 3.10.0+10

Current scini.ko seems to be incompatible with your kernel.

Will attempt to fetch from module repository.

driver_sync.sh START - Don Mär  2 10:27:56 CET 2017

EMC GPG key successfully imported.

Retrieving RH/2.0.12000.122/3.10.0+10/scini.tar ...

No such directory ‘//RH/2.0.12000.122/3.10.0+10’.

Why are you not making the scini module opensource? We could then build it on all distro.

Thx

Francois

Is it still planned for a Q1 release or has it been pushed back?

Hello,

Yes, Xen 7.0 tentatively scheduled to be released with 2.0.1.3 - although it depends on how QA testing will go, so we'll know for sure after it's GA.

7.1, to my best knowledge, will not be yet supported with 2.0.1.3, rather with the next version.

Thank you,

Pawel

Dear SIO Team

You should understand that this lack of support means for us (and probably many other of your customers) the adoption of Ceph as a replacement solution.

If you neglect the market, the market will neglect you.

We have currently set up a lab with different technologies to compare and to pick a winner.

The combination  XS 7 + SIO will be marked in the benchmark result matrix as "not supported by EMC".

SIO is here simply dropping out of the race.

Why are you not making the scini module open-source? This is just the client and then it could be supported easily for all Linux kernel versions.

It is really a pity that we have to wait so long after a kernel release to get a compatible module from EMC, knowing that compiling a module against a similar kernel is a trivial task.

Best Regards

Francois

PS: Sorry to say that, but XS 7 was released in May, almost one year ago... it is getting clear that we cannot rely on such a poor support and that EMC is not taking the XenServer platform seriously.

Scaleio 2.0.1.3 was release in april, and it has support for Xenserver 7.0. The release notes state:

◆ ScaleIO 2.0.1.3 XEN 7.0 Download Contains ScaleIO 2.0.1.3 Core components (MDM/SDS/SDS1-4/SDC/LIA/XC) for XEN 7.0

I don't know if it also supports Xen 7.1 and I would have tried if the download was public. Unfortunately this new release is locked to paying customers. However Nutanix now supports Xen 7.1, so I think I will give it a try.

Will public download be updated to 2.0.1.3? O should we test some other SDSs?

Ahhh!, I have been looking for this release since 2 months and give it a try before buying.  Can someone confirm support for Xenserver 7.1 so I can purchase and proceed.

I was able to grab a version 2.0.1.3, there is a XenServer 7.0 package but its a no go on XenServer 7.1, even after the sales team told me it was supported.

•Command failed: Unsupported operating system. Unknown Linux distribution: NAME="XenServer" VERSION="7.1.0" ID="xenenterprise" ID_LIKE="centos rhel fedora" VERSION_ID="7.1.0" PRETTY_NAME="XenServer 7.1.0" ANSI_COLOR="0;31" HOME_URL="http://xenserver.org/" BUG_REPORT_URL="https://bugs.xenserver.org/" XenServer release 7.1.0 (xenenterprise)

Hi,

I believe 7.1 is not supported yet - I am checking that with Product Management.

I also spoke with the people responsible for the F&F ScaleIO download page - it looks like by mistake 2.0.1.3 never made it there, thank you for pointing it out, it should be there soon.

Many thanks,

Pawel

Pawel,

Version 7.2 is out, but I think that you should concentrate on LTSR version such as 7.1.

Thanks for keeping us updated.
